Who we are
NeighbourCharge is the UK's peer-to-peer EV charging network, operated by Shacksolutions LTD. We connect EV drivers with homeowners who have spare charging capacity.
Information we collect
We collect the minimum data needed to provide and improve the platform. Here's exactly what we collect:
Account information
When you create an account or sign in:
- Authentication data: Email address and password (encrypted) or third-party OAuth credentials (Apple, Google).
- Profile information: Display name and profile picture that you optionally provide.
- Account type: Whether you're registered as a driver, host, or both.
Booking information
When you book or host a charging session:
- Booking details (date, time, duration, location)
- Vehicle information (make, model, battery capacity)
- Charger details (type, power output, location)
- Energy usage data (kWh consumed)
- Communication between drivers and hosts (in-app messaging)
Payment information
For processing payments:
- We do not store your payment details. All payments are processed by our payment provider (Stripe).
- We store transaction records (amount, date, booking reference) for accounting and dispute resolution.
- Your bank details, card numbers, and CVV are never stored on our servers.
Device information
To ensure platform security and prevent fraud:
- Device type, model, and operating system
- App version and build number
- IP address and approximate location
- Browser type and version (for web users)
Usage analytics
We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) for privacy-focused analytics:
- Which features you use and pages you visit
- Booking patterns and search behavior
- App performance metrics and error reports
- Session recordings with all sensitive data automatically masked
Location data
For displaying nearby chargers and facilitating bookings:
- Approximate location: City or postcode area for search results.
- Host addresses: Only shared with confirmed bookings.
- We do not track your real-time location or movement patterns.
Information we do not collect
- Your precise real-time location (GPS tracking)
- Credit card details (handled by Stripe)
- Vehicle registration numbers
- Personal conversations outside the platform
- Contacts or other device data
How we use your information
- To provide the service: Facilitating bookings, processing payments, and connecting drivers with hosts.
- To improve the platform: Understanding usage patterns helps us enhance features and user experience.
- To ensure safety: Verifying users, preventing fraud, and resolving disputes.
- To communicate: Booking confirmations, platform updates, and customer support (you control notification preferences).
- To comply with legal obligations: Tax reporting, regulatory compliance, and responding to lawful requests.
Data storage and security
- Where: Data is stored on Supabase (our backend provider) with servers in secure EU data centres.
- Encryption: All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
- Access: Only authorized personnel have access to user data, following strict security protocols.
- Backups: Regular encrypted backups ensure data recovery in case of system failure.

Your rights

- Portability: Export your booking history and account data.
- Objection: Opt out of marketing communications and non-essential analytics.
Data retention
- Active accounts: Data is retained while your account exists.
- Deleted accounts: Personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days.
- Booking records: Retained for 7 years for tax and legal compliance (anonymized after 2 years).
- Analytics: Retained for 12 months, then automatically deleted.
Data sharing
We share your data only when necessary:
- Between drivers and hosts: Booking details, contact information (only for confirmed bookings).
- Payment providers: Transaction information for processing payments.
- Legal requirements: Compliance with court orders, tax authorities, or regulatory bodies.
- We never sell your data to advertisers or third parties.
International data transfers
Your data is primarily stored in EU data centres. If transferred outside the EU, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (standard contractual clauses, adequacy decisions).
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Significant changes will be announced via email and in-app notifications. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when this policy was last revised.
